When looking for a home inspection company you should settle for nothing short of the best. An inspection company should use a hygrometer (moisture meter) throughout the inspection. As well he should have a thermal imaging camera or recommend a thermal image of the home. If he sees or smells mould, he should recommend an environmental assessment of the home. He should also keep a lookout for asbestos containing materials in homes made before 1887.
We work with many of the provinces top inspection firms. Their reports should be computerized so the client can keep a long term record for liability. The report should be detailed and include pictures to help understand the home and its condition.
Make sure the inspection company is a CAHPI (Canadian Association of Home and Property Inspectors) or similar organization. This is an unregulated industry in our province and it is your job to find the best inspection company.
